Aditya Ghosh started Hyphen in 2023 with a single conviction: that the most interesting writing in India was being done in languages most of its readers couldn't reach. After ten years as a commissioning editor in Delhi and Bombay, he left to build a journal that paid translators properly and put their names on the cover. He sets the editorial line for each issue, but is most often found doing the unglamorous work — chasing permissions, reconciling invoices, and reading slush. He believes a good magazine is mostly a question of who you choose to publish, and that the rest is logistics.
